Stripped, the comic and graphic novels strand of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, have announced the creators who will be taking attending their two day Mini Comic Fair which takes place over the Stripped weekend of 24 and 25 August 2013.

Locally based creators attending include Gary Erskine and Mhairi Stewart with Roller Grrrls, Tanya Roberts with Weevil Productions, and Gill Hatcher and the rest of the team of Team Girl Comic, plus Stripped bloggers John Chalmers and Sandra Marrs of Metaphrog, and Edward Ross who will also be appearing as a speaker in one of Stripped events on Friday 13 August.

Supported by the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo fund, the Stripped Mini Comic Fair is free and doors are open from 11am to 6pm on both days. The venue is 5 Charlotte Square across the road from the main BookFest site in Charlotte Square Gardens (the whole area at the end of George Street being named for George III’s queen) and, due to the historic and UNESCO protected nature of Edinburgh’s 200 year old New Town, is not fully accessible due to steps between the pavement and the main door.

It is worth pointing out that as well as the Stripped Mini Comic Fair being free, entrance to the main BookFest site in Charlotte Square Gardens is also free and that there are two large book shops run by the Festival there, the main book tent and the children’s book tent. All BookFest and Stripped talks are normally followed by a signing session either in the signing tent or in one of the two bookshops – it is unusual for a signing not to take place. These signings are normally open to everyone and not just event ticket holders. Books by the event speakers will be available to buy in the tents prior to being signed and books purchased elsewhere can also be presented for signature. In the event of a long queue there is normally a limit of one signature per person. Speakers will often sign extra copies of their books once the queue is cleared and as these are then sold in the book tents at cover price over the next few days of the festival it is worth looking in the Signed Copies section of the book tents to see what is available.

There are more details of Stripped and the Mini Comic Fair on the Stripped blog which also includes previews and reviews of books by creators who will be appearing at Stripped.
