Redan Publishing – run by former Marvel UK CEO Robert Sutherland – has extended its partnership with Entertainment One to launch its first digital Peppa Pig magazine.

The new digital format – based on the company’s top-selling Fun To Learn Peppa Pig Bag-O-Fun Magazine – will be available on the Apple Newsstand from Thursday 5th December.

The monthly magazine will include free-hand colouring sections, character voices and story running throughout with interactive activities incorporated and an educational focus.

Redan says it will be utilising tablet magazine software from FutureFolio to deliver a series of activities designed for both kids and adults to engage with the Peppa Pig property.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer a truly interactive version of our hugely successful FTL Peppa Pig Bag-O-Fun magazine,” commented Julie Jones, who is joint managing director at Redan. “We wanted to deliver a publication that adds something different and special to the printed magazine and not just a simple PDF version.

“This was quite a challenge, knowing that children are among the most demanding and savvy users of tablets.

“The animation and activities in this App will provide Peppa fans with a new and exciting way to engage with their favourite character and we hope that each issue will keep them entertained for hours.”

Peppa Pig has proven its success on digital platforms through the outstanding sales of apps and e-books,” notes  Hannah Mungo, Head of UK licensing at Entertainment One, the owners of the character. “As tablets and mobile devices become increasingly popular ways for families to consume content, the timing is perfect for redan to launch a magazine app and we have every confidence in its success.”

Peppa Pig Bag of Fun MagazineAimed at both boys and girls aged three to seven, the digital magazine will retail at £2.99. The print edition costs £3.99.

Redan recently had a reshuffle of its key staff, with Jenny O’Connor, who has been with the company since its launch, joining Julie Jones as joint Managing Editors.

Company founder Robert Sutherland continues to be a driving force in the company, and has assumed the role of Group Chairman, but his focus is currently on the development of the US side of the business, with where Redan expects rapid growth with new launches in the pipeline and a major new licensing deal yet to be announced.

In August, Redan’s celebrated as its flagship titles maintained their previous top spots in the ABC sales figures charts, with Fun To Learn Peppa Pig magazine continuing its dominance at the top of the pre-school charts with its highest ever ABC figure.  The pre-school favourite seems to be unstoppable, with an average sale of 92,992 copies, an increase of 12% year on year, followed by FTL Friends, in second place, with an average sale of 74,182 copies per issue.

“We believe that this is down to offering the best value for money,” said Julie Jones, “coupled with our top-class editorial design, giving readers and their parents exactly what they want in this highly competitive market.”

The company also has its own, separate licensing division, Redan Alchemy.
