Kingsman: The Secret Service trailer released

Twentieth Century Fox released its first trailer to promote the upcoming release of Kingsman: The Secret Service recently, based on the comic created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, which is due for an October release. I’ve only just seen it, so forgive me coming late to the party.

The Secret Service: KingsmanIn the original comic, Gary Unwin’s life is going nowhere. He lives in a council house with his mother and spends his nights carousing with his friends. But Gary’s Uncle Jack has taken a different path – one of glamour, danger and mystery. When Jack is called upon to get his nephew out of trouble one last time, their lives are going to intersect in a way neither of them could have foreseen.

Secret Service is the ramifications of how America is struggling on the world stage,” says Millar of the story, “funding is being seriously undercut to balance the books and some people are trying their best to take advantage of the fragile global situation. The hero and sidekick guys who lead the book are, I think, the best characters I’ve written.”

The comic itself – recently collected by Titan – was a great romp, a blend of action adventures and black humour Mark Millar fans enjoy, tempered with some fine art by Dave Gibbons. Gary Unwin is a fish out of water who makes good in his own style with aplomb, although not without personal cost.

The trailer for the film, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class and who also co-plotted the comic), looks to have taken the the source material and revamped it for its big screen outing. The trailer definitely suggests Gary is unaware of the true identity of the man who recruits him into Kingsman, a super-secret spy organization that recruits this unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Written Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Secret Service and has a terrific cast that includes Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson and Taron Egerton as Gary Unwin, with appearances from Mark Hamil, Elton John, Lady Gaga, David Beckham and many others.

It’s due for UK release on 17th October 2014.
