Subversive Comics Kickstarts Bearlands Issue 6

Bearlands 6a
A short while back we reviewed the first three issues of Subversive Comics’ great Bearlands comic. Written by Jeremy Biggs and illustrated by Bakki, Bearlands takes the now seemingly ubiquitous zombie apocalypse tale and gives it a new twist – teddy bears.

The comic follows the trials and tribulations of un-named chopper-riding, leather-clad, Matrix sunglasses wearing, cigarette smoking teddy bear as he fights his way across a Zombear infested landscape to bring the bear responsible for the apocalypse to justice. As Subversive put it “the zombie apocalypse has never been so cute”.

To give potential readers a taste of the action within the comic series creator and writer Jeremy Biggs has teamed up with American animator Laura Maue to produce a short animation featuring the bear-with-no-name on the Bearlands website – www.zombiebears.co.uk.

The series has continued on through to issue 5 and Subversive are now launching a Kickstarter project to raise funds for the sixth and final issue of Bearlands: Zombie Bears – Season One. At 60 pages long, Issue 6 marks the culmination of over 2 years’ work by writer and artist.

This is the second Kickstarter that Jeremy has run – his first for his illustrated Cyberpunk novella Metal Made Flesh finished at 489% funded – having secured its funding target in the first 3 days. For Bearlands issue 6 there is a wide range of Kickstarter rewards including the Zombear teddies that are sold on the Subversive Comics table at conventions and modelled here by zombie maestro George A Romero.
