Judgement in Cardiff, a  unique exhibition of Judge Dredd art comes to Cardiff next month – the work of a duo known as Caped in Case who commissioned David Roach to draw the event’s promotional poster.

The exhibition brings together some of the finest artists ever to draw 2000AD‘s hard-nosed future cop, as well as more recently published and up and coming artists. From private commissions by the character’s co-creator, Carlos Ezquerra – through incredibly inked pages by legends such as Mick McMahon and Brendan McCarthy, to fully painted covers and digitally painted covers respectively by Glenn Fabry and Ryan Brown the exhibition features the richness of stylistic approaches to the character and the world he inhabits.

The pages on display at ‘Judgement in Cardiff’ – the first exhibition of this type in the capital of Wales – have been lent to Caped in Case for the purpose of this exhibition either by the artists themselves or from private collections. This will be the only time to see these collected works in the same space.

Cardiff Life Judge Dredd CoverCardiff Life magazine, along with other local media, has clearly gotten caught up in the excitement about the exhibition and the next issue features colour version of the event’s art. The exhibition will have few copies of the magazine to give away at the opening on 1st August 2015 on first come first serve basis.

The exhibition features art by Simon Bisley, Ryan Brown, Mike Collins, Carlos Ezquerra, Glenn Fabry, Patrick Goddard, John Higgins, Jock
, Garry Leach, Brendan McCarthy, Mick McMahon, Colin MacNeil, Grant Richards, Arthur Ranson, David Roach
, Will Simpson
, Ron Smith, Dave Taylor, Dylan Teague, Przemyslaw ‘Trust’ Truscinski and Chris Weston – plus original scripts by Judge Dredd co-creator – John Wagner.

Caped in Case are designer Lloyd Bailey who lives and works in Cardiff and photographer Bartosz Nowicki the curator of the Third Floor Gallery where Judgement Comes to Cardiff is being hosted. The pair have been supported in their work on this exhibition by Peter Theobalds.

If you can’t make the exhibition, it’s well worth visiting the web site, which not only features some great art but has also published interviews with a number of the creators whose work is on display, including a three part interview with poster artist David Roach, Ryan BrownMike Collins, Patrick Goddard, JockArthur RansonGrant Richards and comic art collector Dale Jackson.
