The Story: After triumphing in an otherworldly and alien basketball match Wiz and Mug’s adventures continue when a teleportation device dumps in a ruined beach town. A mysterious tournament and the town’s amphibious inhabitants confront the pair with the revelation that the United Order of Mages may not be all that they seem.

In order to survive the town and fulfil their mission our pair of argumentative adventurers are going to have to abide by ancient laws of the land and take part in a game of volleyball. The question is, can they trust each other and work together to defeat the great and powerful volleyball champions Yahma and Yahmi?

Fantasy Sports Book 2 by Sam Bosma - Preview 1

The Preview: In Book One of this series (reviewed here) Sam Bosma put Wiz and Mug through the wringer in a basketball game of galactic proportions. They just about came through with their lives. Book Two – The Bandit of Barbel Bay – dumps the pair straight into another competition of beach volleyball. Nothing however is as it seems – alongside this, the background conspiracy with the United Order of Mages is building.

Yet again, this is a book full of joy, energy and shouty excitement. It is a book that can be thoroughly enjoyed by young and old and exhibits a creative edge that combines playfulness on the page with originality and really brain twisting designs. It rattles on at such a pace that I dare you not to read a book by Sam Bosma it in one sitting. I really can’t wait to get my hands on this hardback when it comes out.

The Bandit of Barbel Bay will be released by NoBrow Press in April. Watch out for more news here
