The launch of Volume 2 of My So-Called Secret Identity (aka MSCSI), with writer Will Brooker and artist Jennie Gyllblad, will take place in London at the end of the month.
MSCSI, created by Suze Shore, Will Brooker and Sarah Zaidan, launched online in February 2013. Issues Two and Three, funded entirely by fan donations, followed later that year, with Issue Four released in June 2014.
During that time, MSCSI – also available to read for free online on the project web site – was acclaimed by the comics press and mainstream media, and featured in international publications like Ms Magazine, The Guardian and more. Issues One and Two were reprinted in a special issue of Geeked magazine, and in June 2014 the MSCSI creators joined the British Library’s prestigious Comics Unmasked event, with Grant Morrison and Warren Ellis.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign in July 2014, which raised over £10,000, Issue Five – the final episode of the first volume – was published and the complete story was released in February 2015 as a collected, full colour, high quality print edition.
The team followed that success in June 2015 with a second, even more ambitious Kickstarter, which smashed the funding target at £13,000 – enough to produce Volume 2, including new stories from previously-unpublished writers.
Doors for the launch event at the Phoenix Artist Club in London on Thursday 27th April will open at 6.30pm, and the event will take place from 7 – 8pm. The event is free, but the club is for members only and for guests who are in the list of participants – so registration is essential.
