Lancaster Comics Day will return – in 2019

Lancaster Comics Day 2019

Lancaster Comics Day will be taking a break in 2018, returning to the city on Sunday 2nd June 2019.

The decision has been taken in part in response to continued changes within Lancashire’s library services and to give the event’s opportunity to explore developing options for greater co-ordination and partnership with other local organisations with comics interests.

Launched in 2015, Lancaster Comics Day, organised by the Friends of Lancaster Library and myself, has raised over £1300 for Lancaster Library, monies which has seen the purchase of new sound equipment and black out blinds for its “Sanctuary” room, enabling film screenings.

Guests at past events have included Roy of the Rovers artist David Sque (making his first ever comics event appearance), Doctor Who and Road to Perdition artist Richard Piers Rayner, TOXIC and EPIC cartoonist Lew Stringer, Green Arrow writer Andy Diggle, local author AS Chambers and many more.

I’d like to thank the Friends of Lancaster Library team (especially Stuart Reynolds), the library staff, the creators, the many stall holders (especially Lancaster’ First Age Comics), the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, our hundreds of attendees and local media for the incredible support Lancaster Comics Day has had over the past three years.

There are some exciting things happening locally in the word of comics, but as a volunteer team it takes a little longer to line things up and come back with a strong event and both Stuart and I agreed a one-year hiatus was the best way to achieve this.

My commitment to promoting comics is undimmed, and there are a lot of people rooting for us. While of course I’m sorry the lack of Lancaster Comics Day in 2018 will disappoint some, we’re already thinking up ways to make up for its absence!
