Doctor? Doctor Who? Graeme Neil Reid’s latest Art Raffle celebrates two takes on Britain’s favourite time traveller

Doctor Who-inspired art by Graeme Neil Reid

There’s a return to familiar territory for artist Graeme Neil Reid for his incredible monthly Art Raffle he runs to encourage Patreon support for his work – but with some not so familiar faces.

Graeme is a Scottish artist who now works primarily in traditional mediums of watercolour and acrylic. His work has graced many different areas including books (The Dangerous Book of Heroes), television (World’s Strongest Man), gaming (Need for Speed), magazines (Radio Times), comics (2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine), online and apps (Doctor Who).

The success of the TV series Doctor Who with William Hartnell in the lead role in the 1960s spawned a film adaption that didn’t mind altering the concept as long as some ’tin pot terrors’ where on hand to menace. Peter Cushing played the good Doctor – not as an alien time and space traveller, but an eccentric English inventor who just happens to create a time machine who bumps into the Daleks a lot.

Graeme’s first Art Raffle painting is based purely on the first 1965 film Dr. Who and the Daleks which sees “Dr Who”, his two granddaughters Susan and Barbara and Barbara’s boyfriend Ian accidentally travel through time and space. You can watch Graeme create this painting on his YouTube Channel.

The second work being raffled comes as we prepare to say goodbye to the current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, in the upcoming Christmas special episode Twice Upon a Time. Regenerations can be a traumatic event – not just for a Time Lord but for Doctor Who fans and this time two incarnations of the Doctor are fighting against the inevitable. David Bradley steps into William Hartnell’s shoes as the First and Twelfth Doctor meet up and no doubt the save the day and themselves. Get a hanky ready…

Both paintings were painted on Arches Cold Pressed 300gsm watercolour paper at A6 (15cm x 10.5cm) size.

Entering couldn’t be easier. By pledging just $1 a month on Graeme’s Patreon site you get entered into the Art Raffle plus rewards including Work in Progress posts, Art Club with first chance to buy his art, postcards, PDF sketchbook, supporters portraits and a discount at his Etsy Store.

The competition will run until midnight (GMT) of the 30th November 2017, and the winner will be notified shortly afterwards. The winner will get to choose one of the two paintings as their prize and the other painting will be available to buy, first to Graeme’s Patreon supporters with an added discount and then in his Esty shop.
