Comics and Beer? No-one’s going to find that attractive, right? But if you do…

.Comics and Beer - North Laine - September 2018

For those of you who once shocked the French in Angoulême during their annual BD Festival by drinking bars dry, and those of you who’ve laughed when hotels fail to understand some comic fans capacity for drinking… there’s good news, because three “comic and beer” events are coming your way this month.

(Please note, the above paragraph is intended as in part humorous and we would always encourage readers to drink responsibly. Spilled beer can damage your comics, after all…)

The first Comics and Beer event of the month is at the North Laine Brewhouse, Brighton, this Sunday (16th September). This is an all-day, free Comic Pop Up event with a small comics swap meet that includes a small press table. The pub is five minutes away from Dave’s Comics, in Brighton – well worth a visit, too.

Head over to the London Loves Comics Facebook group for more information, or get in touch with the pub for more information at hello@northlaine.pub.

OK Comics Rocket Fule Beer Launch (Apollo Graphic Novel)

During the Leeds-based Thought Bubble, the multiple award winning book shop OK Comics in Leeds city centre will not only be open longer hours throughout weekend – they’re having a Beer Party, on Saturday 22nd September from 7.00pm to 11.00pm, offering Drink, Food and Comics.

They’ll be launching the “Rocket Fuel” beer, produced in celebration of the Apollo Graphic Novel from SelfMadeHero. (What do you mean, you haven’t bought this yet? We’ve told you enough times how wonderful it is).

The beer will be available to purchase over the whole weekend from OK Comics. The creators of the book – writers Matt Fitch and Chris Baker, artist Mike Collins and Joe Totti- will be in attendance, signing cans and books.

OK Comics will also have a stand at Thought Bubble, located in the Comixology Marquee on Millennium Square, adjacent to Myriad Editions and SelfMadeHero, for the two day event.

Head over to the OK Comics web site for the latest news on this event and their other Thought Bubble-related activities.

British Comics Swapmeet and Mini-MartFinally, another mention for the third British Comics Swapmeet and Mini-Mart – taking place 29th and 30th September 2018 in the Lochore Miners Welfare Society & Social Club between 12.00 noon and 5.00 pm on each of those days. Which one of the organisers has pointed out, is on licensed premises…

As with previous successful meets, this minimart is dedicated to British comics, the focus weekly and Picture Library titles such as Commando, that made up the British comic industry for so long.

This event is not aimed at DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse or any of the other American publishers that are so well served by the rest of the current comic convention scene.

Entry will be £1 for adults and free for anyone under 16.

Lochore is a former mining village in Fife, Scotland, that takes its name from the nearby Loch Ore.

This beer-stained item with thanks to Colin Noble, Richard Sheaf, OK Comics and Mike Collins. No beer was spilled in the writing of this post, although the cat did knock my tea over
