New publishing company Thrilling Nostalgia Comics recently launched their new Kickstarter, The Liberty Brigade, a one hundred-plus page graphic novel featuring the return of dozens of 1940s superheroes in a new World War Two graphic novel, featuring art by a host of great creators, including Alan Davis, Barry Kitson and Jim Steranko. There’s still time to back it – but you’ll need to act fast.
New writer Michael Finn brings along dozens of his good friends to assist in this tale of action, adventure, romance and intrigue. Editor Mark Waid, writer of Captain America, Flash, Legion of Super-Heroes, the Champions and darn near every other character under the sun. The two main artists are Ron Frenz (Superman, Spider-Man, Thor, etc.) and Barry Kitson (Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Legion of Super-Heroes, Batman, etc.).
Like Barry Kitson, comic superstar Jim Steranko has provided a variant comic book cover for the comic.
In addition to these creators, a virtual Hall of Fame has joined to provide one-page origins to catch readers up on how these characters obtained their powers. Artists include George Perez, Alan Davis, Mark Buckingham, John Totleben, Ken Lashley, Chris Weston, Paul Renaud and many more.
The story takes place in the middle of World War Two. Hitler, advised by Misery, the Claw, the Great Question and others has hatched a plan to assassinate President Roosevelt using the combined power of some of the biggest and baddest villains of the Golden Age including: The Clown; Mastermind; Frost; Professor Fenton; the Ape; the Scarlet Skull and Veda the Cobra Woman.
The only thing standing in their way is The Liberty Brigade, a team consisting of The Blue Flame; Cat-Man, Kitten, The Mad Hatter, The Green Turtle and three brand new heroes: Mr. Freedom (who is connected to a Golden Age character); The Bill of Rights and The National Anthem.
The Liberty Brigade features dozens of revived and rejuvenated super-heroes and super-villains from the 1940s (and a few from the 1950s) in a brand new tale.
