Comics Zine Crikey! makes an unexpected comeback

Crikey! Volume OneIf you’re a fan of the new ComicScene UK magazine, then as a fan of British comics you’ll know there were a number of magazines down the years in a similar vein – Fantasy Advertiser, INFINITY, Speakeasy, for example, and Crikey!, too.

Well, Crikey! Is about to make a comeback- as collections… thanks to Tony Foster at ComicScene UK.

Crikey! was a magazine which ran for 16 issues, covering all aspects of UK comic industry. While it wasn’t perfect – there are some articles better consigned to history for some appalling research – it is remembered with much affection from comic fans and featured some exceptional articles about UK comics during its run.

Now, almost a decade since Crikey! finally appeared on the shelves as a regular magazine, publisher Glenn B Fleming has finally succumbed to the British comic reading public’s demand. Crikey! The Great British Comics Magazine will be re-printed in four A4 volumes, all featuring the best of Crikey! (Which hopefully means there’ll be some editing or excising of its weaker elements).

To be collected in four perfect bound books, produced in association with ComicScene UK, look forward to plenty of articles about your favourite British comics, your favourite annuals and, of course, your favourite creators!

Volume One, running to over 200 perfect bound pages, will contain the very best articles from issue #1 through to issue #5, including material on artists such as Frank Bellamy, Don Lawrence and Ron Embleton, and characters and strips such as Adam Eterno, “Lady Penelope”, Andy Capp and lots more.

The other three volumes will appear at regular intervals throughout the year and can be pre-ordered at www.comicscene.tictail.com in print or PDF format.

Volume Four will also boast material from an unpublished hundred page special, along with issues 15 and 16 of the regular magazine, with brand new articles and interviews. This will include an unpublished exclusive interview with comic creators Bryan and Mary Talbot.

Glenn and the Crikey! team poured heart and soul into the original title, so it’s good to see the material they gathered getting a deserved reincarnation and spruce up.

• The perfect bound print copy Crikey! Collected Volume 1 can be pre-ordered here for 1st February 2019 release date and is retailing at £20 each plus £5 postage. There will be a £5 discount in February.  You can get the PDF delivered to your inbox for £10.

  1. I really liked Crikey! and don’t think I missed an issue. The unpublished material might be of interest, though!
