Glasgow’s Hunterian Museum is to host a free Comics Scotland event on Saturday 1st December 2018, with special guests including artist Frank Quitely.

Night at the Museum: Comics Scotland is an exploration of Scotland’s illustrious history in the development of comics and the event will include an exhibition of the Glasgow Looking Glass, first published in 1825, widely believed to be the first mass-produced publication to tell stories using illustrations.

This free event at the Hunterian Museum celebrates ‘St. Andrew’s Fair Saturday 2018’ with stalls, guest speakers and a cosplay competition.

The organisers say it “aims to positively respond to consumerism of Black Friday” by delivering a festival of arts and culture, contributing to the global ‘Fair Saturday‘ movement and the celebration of St. Andrew’s Day. It aims to boost social inclusion, fairness and sharing inspired by Scotland’s National Day.

Donations will be encouraged on the night to support development of a widening participation outreach project with young people from disadvantaged areas across the city.

Showcasing world-class research and related objects from the University of Glasgow’s collections, including the world’s first comic, this dynamic and entertaining comic-con evening will feature a wide variety of activities and panel discussions with a number of special guests.

Comic-themed costumes are highly recommended.  ‌The event will include a comics-themed DJ and a cash bar. Night at the Museum is supported by Scotland’s Winter Festivals.

“I can’t wait for the Comics Night at the Museum,” Frank Quitely told The Scotsman. “This will be a one-of-a-kind experience. Don’t miss it!”
