Thrill Power Overload! Complete 1977 – 2018 2000AD collection goes to auction

2000AD Collection A complete collection of 2000AD comic books – featuring Prog #1 – #2111 (February 1977 – December 2018) – will go under the hammer on Friday 15th February at Cuttlestones’ Wolverhampton Sale Room.

Amassed by a single collector over the 41 years, this represents is an opportunity to buy the complete run of the cult classic that does also, of course, occasionally crop up online, but there are other items in the auction that might be of interest too, such as books illustrate different by Arthur Rackham, children’s books, natural history reference, military equipment and badges and many military reference books.

2000AD’s SF themes and legendary characters – from fictional editor Tharg the Mighty to space hero Dan Dare and post-apocalyptic cop Judge Dredd – captured the imagination of a generation looking for an antidote to the classic American superhero genre when it first launched over 40 years ago. Irreverent and off-beat, it retains a strong following of both original readers and new young fans.

Cuttlestones’ book expert, Rosie Blackburn, says: “This is an amazing opportunity for either serious comic collectors to get their hands on a complete ready-made collection or for fans of the 2000AD series to own every single issue ever published.

“We anticipate strong international interest in this lot.”

The 2000AD collection will come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Wolverhampton sale room during the Specialist Collectors’ Sale on Friday 15th February.

In addition to items above, of interest to downthetubes readers might be a lot that includes four Thunderbirds 33rpm mini albums and a TV21 Themes 33rpm mini album together with a Thunderbirds double LP ‘Jeff Tracy Introduces International Rescue’ and ‘Lady Penelope Presents’; illustrated pre-war teaching guides; an early Lego Town Plan Set; and an early Subuteo set.

The full, illustrated catalogue will be available online at www.cuttlestones.co.uk from Friday 8th February and viewing will be from 10.00am – 7.00pm on the day prior to, as well as the morning of, the sale.

For those unable to attend in person, live online, telephone and commission bidding options are available.

UPDATE- 19TH February 2019 – there was a good amount of interest in the 2000AD lot in this auction and the collection eventually sold for a hammer price of £400 to a UK internet bidder
