DC’s Doom Patrol TV series launches this week in the US, exclusively on on the DC Universe streaming service across the pond. Hopes are high the series will make it to Netflix here in the UK, which has also screened the hit series Titans, where Doom Patrol first featured.

Launching Friday 15th February stateside, Doom Patrol is a 15-episode live action television series based on the comics, with April Bowlby, Brendan Fraser and Matt Bomer reprising their roles from Titans, as, respectively, Elasti-Woman, Robotman and Negative Man.

Set after the events of Titans, the Doom Patrol receive a mission from Cyborg that they cannot refuse. Coming out of hiding for the first time the team must learn to work together, fight crime and take care of their dysfunctional family.

Doom Patrol is written and executive produced by Jeremy Carver, the series taking place in the DC Universe of original programming.

For those who came in late, the Doom Patrol is a team of vigilante superheroes in the DC Comics, created by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.

First appearing in My Greatest Adventure #80 back in 1963, the “World’s strangest superheroes” have been popular amongst fans for over 50 years, with several different takes on the characters published down the years, including stories written by Grant Morrison. Only Robotman has consistently appeared throughout all six series.

In the live-action iteration of the team, the team was brought together by Dr. Niles ‘The Chief’ Caulder, played by Timothy Dalton. Thanks to the doctor’s incredible gift for science and medicine he was able to save the previously abandoned members of the Doom Patrol and give them a safe haven to live.

Brendan Fraser plays Robotman, April Bowlby is Elasti-Woman, Alan Tudyk is Mr. Nobody. Joivan Wade is Cyborg, Matt Bomer Negative Man and Diane Guerrero plays Crazy Jane.

Titans is exclusive to Netflix outside of the US so hopefully the streaming service has picked up Doom Patrol (and Young Justice: Outsiders) too – and it won’t be long before it aires here in the UK.

Netflix UK already screens Black Lightning, which airs on CW in the US.
