Liverpool’s Blackwell’s Bookshop and Liverpool Lions Club will host a special night in April to help promote the new Heroes! Magazine published in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital next month.
If you haven’t bought a copy of Heroes! yet, it’s a smashing picture story magazine featuring illustrated story work by a host of great comic creators, hopefully the beginning of an ongoing project that will include all-new adventures, some inspired by classic fairy tales – more information here.
“Across the Marvel Universe to Gallifrey, Beanotown, Gotham and Mega-City One” on Wednesday 24th April at Blackwell’s Bookshop will feature appearances by author and editor Alan Cowsill, Beano cartoonist Nigel Parkinson, Heroes! editor, raconteur and writer Tim Quinn, and 2000AD artist Dave Taylor.
Four extraordinary talents from the comic book world in conversation will help launch The Fab 4000 super team that’s part of the Heroes! project.
Alan Cowsill co-created Stormwatcher for Acme/Eclipse before working on Panini UK’s Marvel line and writing the first UK-originated Spider-Man strips for more than a decade. He created the bestselling Jackie Chan Adventures, the award-winning Classic Marvel Figurine Collection, and the DC Super Hero Collection for Eaglemoss Publishing. His books include Warzone: Dark Eden, DC Comics: A Year by Year Visual Chronicle, Marvel Avengers Character Encyclopaedia, and Spider-Man Year by Year: A Visual Chronicle.
Nigel Parkinson draws “Dennis and Gnasher” and most other Beano characters at some time for the weekly comic, annuals, summer and winter specials, and all artwork for posters, key rings, t-shirts, and associated merchandise.
And we haven’t even mentioned Nigel’s work on the Stella McCartney Paris Fashion Week show!
Tim Quinn is the Quinn half of Quinn & Howett from Doctor Who Magazine, Marvel Comics and various deceased titles, now editing a brand new comic book and launching super-hero team, The Fab 4000, on behalf of the Liverpool Lions Club for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
New York Times best selling artist, Dave Taylor has worked for numerous comics publishers on numerous characters including Iron Man, Zorro, Doctor Who, Superman, most notably Batman and his recent work on British legend “Judge Dredd”, for 2000AD.
