New Beano-inspired toys, artworks and meal boxes on their way

Beano Banner and Logo 2019UK licensing agency Rocket Licensing, who also represent brands as diverse as Ghostbusters, Horrible Histories and Vikings, have secured a number of new Beano-related licensing deals, which will see the release of new toys, meal boxes and classic high-end art prints.

Rocket have revealed the Beano is launching into the pocket money toys space, thanks to a new partnership with Manchester-based toy, activity and gift specialist RMS International, who are developing a new range will be aimed at kids, particularly boys, aged six to ten years old.

Reflecting the comedy and pranks of Beano strips and characters, the range will include items such as pea shooters, slime pots, whoopee cushions and mini water pistols, all using graphics inspired by Beano TV’s Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed.

We have already reported on Selkirk-based art publisher Covell Publishing‘s initial release of high-price-point Beano-inspired pieces by Sleek Studio, a street artist who blends modern street art with iconic and well-loved characters from childhood comics.

Their range is aimed at adult fans of the classic Beano, as well as graffiti art enthusiasts, offering

The limited-edition prints and original artworks will be sold in galleries, online and at independent and high-end outlets.

Also announced is that Stockport-based Practical Publishing International is to create cover mounts and crafting patterns within the publisher’s range of specialist soft craft magazines, which include Crochet Now, Sew Now and Love Sewing. The titles  have wide distribution across high street, grocery, book sellers, independents and online, as well as internationally, and a series of kits and crafts will launch this summer.

Following up on the launch of its “Kids Bitz” meal boxes in January, Huntington-based KeCo Ltd, a specialist in innovative food service packaging, is to offer themed children’s meal boxes in four classic Beano designs, which will include an activity sheet and premium promotional product.

Featuring puzzles and things to do on each side, each of their Kids Bitz boxes is supplied with an activity book and snap-on/off crayon comprising of four colours – perfect for doodles and scribbles, which should you give you some idea of what an estimated 360,000 to 400,000 new boxes will include, branded with Beano characters and promoted at outlets across the UK.

Texco, an expert in licensed children’s designs for home textiles, has also been newly licensed to produce a range of bedding and home textiles – starting with an adult double duvet set – using classic Beano artwork.

More children’s and adult’s textiles are also to be developed and sold through grocery stores, online, on the high street and at independent shops. The company already produces Godzilla and Horrid Henry-inspired items.

Rocket is targeting a number of additional areas for the Beano, including daywear, games and puzzles, stationery, toy, food gifting and confectionery, working with Beano Studios whose  partners also include fashion designer Stella McCartney, retail giant Amazon and global lifestyle brand Ted Baker.
