Charley’s War Battle “In the Trenches” Cover offered on eBay

There’s a great opportunity to get hold of an original “Charley’s WarBattle cover by Joe Colquhoun on eBay right now – and, unlike a number of Joe’s covers, this one will definitely sell.

Rather than open bids at the often £500 price point, the seller, who is donating some of the proceeds to Pendleside Hospice, opened bidding at just one penny, which means that this is going to find a new home. Currently bids are at the £180 mark.

The cover of Battle cover dated 11th July 1981, the story featured is set in April 1917, and, as noted in our “Charley’s War” Stripography, it’s when Smokey cons two soldiers into sharing his bunk to catch measles, for a fee, so they can get out of the fighting. A mortar bomb hits the dugout and the pair shield Smokey from the blast. Smokey, of course, never had the measles…

An excellent example of Joe’s work on this classic war story, this is original art on offer, with original mastheads, too.

Pendleside Hospice provides care and support to people in the Burnley and Pendle area in Lancashire, who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Care is provided free of charge to anyone that needs it either within their Hospice building at Reedley, out in the community or within a patients own home. Care and support is extended to the patients family and carers.

  1. Now at £350! It’s one of the issues I first bought when I ‘graduated’ from Victor to Battle.
Would love to own it, but I reckon it will go over £500 easily.
