Commando Comics to mark 80th anniversary of World War Two with Invasion: Poland

Commando Issue 5261 Invasion: PolandCommando Comics has announced Issue 5261 Invasion: Poland, a special one-off story focussing on Poland’s defence against the German invasion to commemorate 80 years since the beginning of World War Two.

The issue is out 5th September and features a cover by Ian Kennedy with a story by Iain McLaughlin with interior art by Mario Morhain and Defeo.

The invasion of Poland, known in Poland as the September campaign (Kampania wrześniowa) or the 1939 defensive war (Wojna obronna 1939 roku), and in Germany as the Poland campaign (Polenfeldzug), marked the beginning of World War Two.

The German invasion began on 1st September 1939, one week after the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. The Soviets invaded Poland on 17th September.

The campaign ended on 6th October, with Germany and the Soviet Union dividing and annexing the whole of Poland under the terms of the German–Soviet Frontier Treaty.
