The clock is ticking down to the latest auction by the Italian Urania Auction House, which features some stunning selected works of major international artists from the end of the 19th century to the present day – including a “Dan Dare” page from the story “Safari in Space“, one of the last drawn and credited to Frank Hampson.
The auction also includes a page of “Billy the Kid“, drawn by Don Lawrence, which appeared in the Sun comic, cover dated 12th May 1959, published by Fleetway in the UK.
Included in this incredible auction is some simply gorgeous work, by great artists such as Arthur Adams, Paolo Bacileri, Steve Bissette, Sal and John Buscema, Caesar Curt, Guido Crepax, Floyd Gottfredson, Milo Manara, Hugo Pratt, John Romita, and Nestor Redondo, among many, many others, in a general catalogue that features 323 lots of original works, including artworks from graphic novels, comic strip, Disney stories, and historical illustrations.
The catalogue, available online and in print or PDF, features sections dedicated to the animated feature film La Rosa from Bagdad and one to the famous Venetian illustrator Giorgio De Gaspari; and a separate presentation dedicated to Bonvi (Franco Bonvinci), offering 62 original comic artworks.
These will be works that represent the best of Bonvi’s entire production, from the famous Sturmtruppen to Nick Carter, from the Stories of Deep Space to Milo Marat, Marzolino Tarantola and more.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
