Comic artists Ian Kennedy and Tom Foster join forces for a free Comic Art Masterclass next month at Paisley Central Library, on Saturday 7th March 2020, as part of Renfrewshire Libraries celebrations for Will Eisner Week, which also includes events with writer Jim Alexander and editor Kirsten Murray, Comics Laureate Hannah Berry, and artists Gary Erskine, Colin MacNeill and Neil Slorance.

Paisley Central Library - Comic Art Masterclass with Ian Kennedy and Tom Foster (2020)Ian Kennedy is the most experienced British comics artist working today, having enjoyed a wide and varied career spanning over 50 years. Ian has illustrated comic strips, both in black and white and colour, for Amalgamated Press, Marvel UK and DC Thomson. He has worked on the cream of British comics over the decades including 2000AD, Commando, Eagle, Hotspur, Starlord and Wizard. Semi-retired in 1997, he continues to draw covers and features for Commando.

Glasgow-based Tom Foster is a Scottish comic book artist, best known for his work in 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine. He produced his first work for 2000AD after winning their 2013 portfolio competition and has since gone on to illustrate some of their most iconic strips (including “Judge Dredd” and “Sinister Dexter”) and also co-created the series “Storm Warning” for Judge Dredd Megazine. He has also produced work for Imagine FX magazine and Commando and is an experienced stand-up comedian.

This event is part of Renfrewshire Libraries’ Will Eisner Week 2020 celebrations, which also include appearances by artist Colin MacNeill, in conversation with author John McShane; Neil Slorance, discussing his political cartooning; a character workshop with Gary Erskine; and comics writer and author Jim Alexander and editor Kirsten Murray, discussing the original themes and ideas which inform Jim’s new novel, The Light.

The week of events culminates in an appearance by Hannah Berry, who will talk about her role as the current UK Comic Laureate and her thoughts and experiences within the comic industry to date.
