Fancy getting your hands on a set of limited edition portfolio of “Charley’s War” art prints by Joe Colquhoun? Of course you do! Unphased the accompanying materials are all in French? Then you need to head to the web site of French publisher Delerium – and order a set right now.

Delerium, publishers of the beautiful French editions of the Battle comic series since 2011, released the portfolio back in 2014 as part of the commemorations of the centenary for World War One, and the exhibition devoted to “Charley’s War” at the Museum of the Great War in Meaux.

Working in partnership with the magazine Guerres & Histoire (Sciences & Vie) as well as the Museum of the Great War of Meaux, this portfolio offers exceptional reproductions of a selection of original plates from “Charley’s War”, all by outstanding artist Joe Colquhoun.

“Charley’s War”, first published in Battle between 1979 and 1986, is considered some of Joe’s finest work.

After serving in the Royal Navy in 1943, Joe resumed his studies at Art College. He debuted in Conqueror in 1951. Along with “Charley’s War”, his many credits include illustrating the police detective strip “Zip Nolan” for Lion, a series also well known in France.

The portfolio includes articles, in French, by Jean Lopez, editor-in-chief of Guerres & Histoire, and by Michel Rouger, director of the Great War Museum of the Pays de Meaux.

“Charley’s War” creator Pat Mills highlighted the portfolio on Twitter earlier in the week marking the anniversary of Battle itself, back in 1975, noting very few copies, priced at €60 plus shipping, are left. Publisher Laurent Lerner is currently figuring out whether to sell the few remains copies – less than 150 – direct and/or via a UK source.
