The Summer Special is jam-packed with fab football action – perfect for football fans of all ages. Whether it’s the Melchester team getting to test their skills against the finest teams in Europe, reuniting legends such as Hot-Shot Hamish, Gerry Holloway, Johnny Dexter and keeper Charlie ‘The Cat’ Carter for a special five-a-side tournament, or Roy and Rocky trying to see out lockdown without driving each under up the wall, there’s plenty to cheer thanks to creators such as Tom Palmer (Roy of the Rovers fiction), Rob Williams (2000AD, Doctor Who), Elkys Nova (Tammy & Jinty Special) and David Sque.

The lead strip is a terrific continuation of the ongoing storyline across the Roy of the Rovers graphic novels and fiction, and the back up strip, drawn by Sque, will appeal to older fans, not just Roy of the Rovers readers but for anyone reaching an older playing age and finding the field of play an occasional challenge – and that’s even before social distancing.

  1. Strange piece of marketing: the cover art shouts 21st-Century (or ‘attempt at’), yet they badge it to appeal to longer-term fans – a kind of visual oxymoron… 🙂
