A rare 10” Dan Dare: Pilot Of The Future dubbing copy acetate vinyl record used in the making of some of the 1950’s radio shows for Radio Luxembourg – one of just eight known to exist – is being offered for sale on eBay.
Part of a number of Dan Dare and EAGLE-related items on offer previously owned by a major fan of the character and comic.
“From what Dad and others have said, his record was used in the making of some of the 1950’s radio shows,” says seller Derek Thomas. “The music and background effects were recorded on acetates and then played during the recording of each show.”
These were recorded onto wax discs which were then sent to Radio Luxembourg for broadcast.
The record is single sided with two tracks – “Radio Location” and “Naval Splendour”.

“Dad told me this is only one of eight in existence,” says Derek.
It’s in good condition for its age,” he adds. “… It plays without any jumps, it is quite crackly though.”
(“Radio Location” was also used in The Prisoner, in the episode “The Chimes of Big Ben”).
Derek has posted a recording of it on YouTube, for interested buyers.

The item is being offered with a copy of the Radio Luxembourg’s 208 and View magazine for December 1954 with listings for Dan Dare “The Mekon on Mars” episodes.

The acetate is just one of the first of several items on sale, including rare badges and models, Eagle items, with more being added in coming days.
