An upcoming art auction in aid of Barrow-based charity SAFA (the acronym for Self Harm Awareness for all) features numerous works by comic artists from across the UK, as well as many Cumbrian fine artists.
SAFA is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of individuals, in Cumbria, who self harm and to those who support them. Its primary goal is to empower individuals to take responsibility for their own lives and they do this through non-judgmental counselling and trusting support.
A charity auction organised by local artist Sharon Tait, who also coordinated a similar recent event in aid of Dalton Leisure Centre, will launch online via ArtWorks, a dedicated Facebook group on Friday 23rd April at 9.00am.
Some 42 artists have kindly donated 94 pieces of work, including Martin Greenland, Bryan Talbot, Hunt Emerson, Elizabeth Shorrock, Marilyn Anne Hale, Lynda Gray, Fay Collins, Lucy Wickens, Lucy Sullivan, Martin Rowson, Jane Mallinson, Ray Victor Paul, Malcolm Casson and many more.
Every item offered will have its own post which will tell you the reserve price and you place a bid by commenting on the post. Your bid will be acknowledged that day.
The ArtWorks auction will also offer a special range of artwork called BUY NOW which will have a fixed price, items available from 23rd April -7th May. If you are the first to comment on a post with the message “buy now”, you will win the piece at the fixed price.
“No bidding, no waiting to see if you are outbid. You know you can afford it,” Sharon explains.
“We’re aiming to make artwork that is more affordable to everyone and prices will range from £10-30.”
On 8th May 2021, all items will then go to normal bidding rules.
There are already details of some great artworks on the group, and this art auction is another in a great cause that has attracted comic community support. Do check it out.
