Over on the web site of screen printer John Patrick Reynolds, there’s a chance to get your hands on a Number One: screenprints all numbered 1 in their editions or are Artist’s Proofs, including a new Captain Scarlet release.
“Artist’s Proofs are printed as part of the production process, to test how the image looks before going ahead with the edition,” John explains.
“They are all at their usual prices of either £40 or £135, and they really are a pleasure to hold in your hands,” he enthuses. “They’re all on my usual on cotton mould-made paper, milled in Somerset. It’s heavy 300gsm water colour paper. Sometimes I forget this, but they’re lovely artefacts.
The featured prints on offer this week include Captain Scarlet, the very first proof of a new range of Gerry Anderson screenprints, featuring Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds and moret. John has have two APs to sell., measuring 26 x 19cms.

Based in London, John Patrick Reynolds was the first screenprinter to get permission from DC Thomson, to use images from its archive of British comic characters from The Beano’s Dennis the Menace, The Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx to The Dandy’s Desperate Dan and the Sunday Post’s Oor Wullie and The Broons.
He’s also the only screenprinter in the UK to work with French publisher Editions Albert Réné to make screenprints of its characters Asterix, Obelix, Getafix and, of course, Dogmatix!

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
