Artist and colourist Fabi Marques confirmed Rocha’s passing on social media writing, “I’m really sorry to inform that we lost Robson. One of the greatest artists of our generation. Rest in power.”

Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Robson, who took inspiration from the work of artist Robert McGinnis, had been a comic book creator since 2010, when he started working for DC Comics, working for them exclusively from 2016 onwards. Considered one of the most versatile artists in the Industry, he worked on multiple New 52 titles, including Birds of PreyBatman/SupermanLoboSuperboy, and Earth 2: World’s End.

After signing an exclusive contract with DC, he then worked on DC’s Rebirth titles, including in Aquaman and Green Lanterns. He also contributed to SupergirlJustice LeagueTeen TitansDemon Knights, and World’s Finest.

“To have the opportunity to work with the DC characters I admire and love so much is a dream come true,” he said in an interview last year. “These heroes have helped me believe in a better and much more fantastic world. I hope that my contributions to these characters will help to inspire others.”

“DC is heartbroken to hear of the passing of Robson Rocha,” his publisher said in a statement. “As tributes pour in from his friends and fans, we’re reminded that he was not only an extraordinary artist, but a beloved member of the comic book community and the DC family. We will miss him dearly.”

“An incredibly talented young artist from Brazil, Robson started at DC just 11 years ago,” noted artist and Chief Creative Officer-Publisher at DC, Jim Lee, “and always impressed me with the amazing energy and fluidity of his figurework, the grace of his lines and the power of his compositions. My condolences first and foremost to his widowed wife and daughter, his many peers who admired and respected his talent, and the countless fans around the world who loved and cherished his art.”

“I still can’t believe this,” commented artist Daniel Henriques, “and I’m having a hard time putting it to words…we worked together for many years and I feel we barely scratched the surface of were his talent was going. He was a friend and great guy, and above everything he was a husband and a father with unbound love and dedication to his family, the industry and the world just became a poorer place today.

“This damn virus is ruthless and unfair… this was our last time together , and our last piece of art together …you will never be forgotten my friend , you live in the heart of your family, your friends , and your fans.”

Mourning his passing, Ivan Costa, business partner at Chiaroscuro Studios, who represented the young artist cofounder of CCXP,” mourned his loss but also noted “the memories, the stories, his work in comics, his professionalism, his example remains. There is also the legacy of his love and dedication to his friends and family and, above all, to his dear Jussara Perdigão and Celina.”

Our condolences to his family and friends at this time.
