New York-based Society Of Illustrators opens incredible selling exhibition of comic art

The Society Of Illustrators in New York has opened a selling exhibition of over 175 pieces of original comics art, including work by Neal Adams, Jeffrey Jones, Jack Kirby, Barry Windsor-Smith and many, many more – with a percentage going to support the organisation’s work.

Curated by Rob Pistella, the exhibition, which runs until 23rd October 2021, spans many different comic genres, with examples that date from 1935 up to the modern era, including superhero, strip art, EC, Marvel and DC art, related paintings, underground and alternative art, and more.

Art offered for sale includes work by Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, John Romita, Neal Adams, Jeffrey Jones, Bernie Wrightson, Michael Kaluta, Barry Windsor-Smith, Moebius, Robert Crumb, Winsor McCay, Wally Wood, Joe Kubert, Vaughn Bode, Sean Murphy, Steranko, Frank Miller, Marie Severin, Graham Ingels, Bob Kane, George Perez, Gene Colan, Mike Mignola, Steve Ditko, John Byrne and many many more.

Prices for these originals vary from $500 to over $250,000.

“We believe there is something available for every budget and taste,” says the organisation. “Every piece of art in this exhibition will be for sale.”

Comics expert and author Paul Gravett reports the SoI plan to offer the art online as well, so keep an eye on the organisation’s web site for details.

The Society of Illustrators’ mission is to promote the art of illustration, to appreciate its history and evolving nature through exhibitions, lectures – including virtual lectures – and education, and to contribute the service of its members to the welfare of the community at large.

Founded in 1901, the Society of Illustrators is the oldest nonprofit organisation dedicated to the art of illustration in America. Notable Society members have been N.C. Wyeth, Rube Goldberg, and Norman Rockwell, among many others.

To visit the exhibit at the Museum’s physical space in New York, timed tickets may be purchased online. Walk-ins are also welcome.To keep our staff and the public safe, the Society is continuing to require face coverings for all visitors age two and older, even if you are vaccinated.
