Unleash the artist within, learn a thing or two about drawing and enjoy a tipple on this inspiring sketching social.
Meet France’s best graphic novelists Jul’ Maroh (Blue is the Warmest Colour), Boulet (Notes, Donjon) and Sébastien Verdier (Orwell with Pierre Christin), before they steal the show at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal (15th – 17th October).
Join them for a unique Drink and Draw, where they will draw, where you will draw, where everybody will drink! All levels welcome!

BOULET
Boulet is the pen name for Gilles Roussel, a French cartoonist living in Paris.
He has published about 20 books, most of them for young readers. He has also worked on two books of the “Dungeon” series with Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar, available in English.
He was among the first French cartoonists to become famous by publishing a blog BD – bouletcorp.com, which he started way back in 2004, and has since drawn more than 1600 entries.

JUL MAROH
Jul Maroh is a French writer and illustrator of graphic novels, perhaps best known for writing Le Bleu Est Une Couleur Chaude (“Blue is the Warmest Colour“), published by Glénat in 2010, a romantic story about the life and love of two young lesbians.
The graphic novel was adapted into the film Blue Is the Warmest Colour in 2013 by Abdelatif Kechiche.
In 2015, Jul published City & Gender, a collection of short stories taking place in anonymous contemporary western cities. Other graphic novels include Body Music – a “bittersweet graphic novel on the complexities of love” and You Brought Me The Ocean in 2020.

SÉBASTIAN VERDIER
Sébastien Verdier is a French comic artist who became a cartoonist thanks to François Corteggiani, who created the story, Ultimate Agency, in 2003, pulished over tow volumes – Le requiem des chiens galeux and Trois tondus et un pelé.
When François became Editor in Chief of PIF magazine, he introduced Sébastien to Pierre Christin, so that he could work with him to create short stories about a team of TV journalists.
Subsequently he collaborated with Pierre Christin with the release of Rencontre sur las Transssaharienne, published in 2014, and Orwell, in 2019, published in English by SelfMadeHero earlier this year.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
