New Lawless “Noble Bolt-01 Award” offers free convention pass in memory of two British independent greats

The team behind the Bristol comics event, Lawless, have announced the Noble Bolt-01 Award, in honour of downthetubes very own, much-missed contributor and amazing comics archivist Colin Noble and independent comics creator and publisher Dave Evans (aka Bolt-01), who we sadly lost earlier this year.

Lawless Comic Convention is a not-for-profit comic convention organised by fans and for fans. The 2022 guest list includes a slew of 2000AD creators and more, including John Wagner, John Higgins, Mick McMahon and Glenn Fabry.

As a new addition to their forthcoming event in May, and all future Lawless shows, the team are asking comic fans to nominate those they think deserve an amazing convention weekend, who might not normally be able to make it.

“Colin and Dave were huge supporters of Lawless and for varying reasons, Colin was never able to make it to the show,” notes Lawless co-ordinator Su Haddrell. “Bolt-01 worked tirelessly on our programmes each year, and it was always wonderful to see him rock up with boxes of them all and a huge smile on his face.

“In their honour, we want to share the love and give someone the opportunity to come to Lawless who might not normally be able to make it.”

If you know someone who has always wanted to go to Lawless, an event very much focused on celebrating 2000AD and British comics, but for whatever reason has never been able to make it, then now is your chance to make that happen. Lawless will cover the cost of a ticket, transport and accommodation for one nominated person to join them at the show for the weekend in May 2022.

Just email LawlessComicCon@hotmail.com with the heading “Noble Bolt Nomination” and tell the team the details of who you want to nominate, and why. A winner will be announced when tickets go on sale in January 2022, to give them plenty of time to plan ahead if necessary.

“We’re accepting nominations up until the end of the year and then the Chosen One will be selected and announced when tickets go on sale in January,” Su says.

This is a smashing idea, in memory of two wonderful creators. Get your thinking caps on!
