Dan Dare, as re-imagined by Hal Laren

We know we’ve been longer announcing the winner of our Dan Dare Reboot Competition. You can view them all the entries on Flickr here. There’s a piece of news on the character we have been anxious to share with you, but right now that information still remains Top Secret! (Yes, we know we’re being a terrible tease. Sorry).

Dan Dare Reboot Design by Mo Ali

Dan Dare Reboot Design by Mo Ali – another darn fine entry!

After much deliberation – and given the quality of many entries from artists such as Smuzz, Mo Ali and Jonathan Wyke, it was a hard choice – we had  our winner narrowed down to  a couple of entrants. We really liked Lucas Bowers‘ take on the character – and we loved Keith Page‘s new Mekon!

But in the end (and given that Lucas won our last competition to create a look for the Twelfth Doctor), I’ve decided that the prize of a a copy of The Dan Dare Space Fleet Operations Manual published by Haynes, and a copy of my 2010 art book, SciFi Art Now, should go to Hal Laren. It’s a striking pose, in my view.

Thanks to everyone who entered!
