Great Beast – a group of independent comic creators self publishing their work to a professional level – have announced that new talent Elliot Baggott will be joining the team to release his first graphic novel, Hundred Metre Garden, later this year.
Currently being serialised online, Hundred Metre Garden (100MG for short) is a story about four friends who move into a mouldy South London house with big plans to make it the ultimate Lad’s Pad. But as their string of planned parties trails off, a deep apathy sets in. There’s something not right with the house; and as the long, dismal winter drags on, it begins to make it’s presence felt.
Elliot’s art impressed the Great Beast team (a project founded by Adam Cadwell and Marc Ellerby in early 2013) immediately with his confident, heavy pencils and his vivid characters. His deft storytelling has created a subtle, uneasy atmosphere and an intriguing, accomplished piece of work.

Great Beast’s next release is Rachael Smith‘s debut graphic novel House Party – a project successfully funded thanks to a Kickstarter appeal which got an incredible response – will debut at the East London Comics & Arts Festival (ELCAF) on 14th June. But you can get your hands on it the night before (Friday 13th June) at the House Party Launch at Orbital Comics.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
