True Believers Awards Launched as revamped “Eagle Award” site vanishes

Ture Believers Comic Awards

It looks like plans to revive the Eagle Awards have hit a snag, because an all-new comic award has just been announced – with the ceremony scheduled at the exactly same time at London Film and Comic Con as that for the previously-announced Eagles event.

Mike Conroy, who established the Eagle Awards would not comment on what has happened to the planned Stan Lee Eagle Awards, announced back in April (see news story), but you can log on now to the True Believers Awards web site to cast your votes in the first ever True Believer Comic Awards. (A blank page greets visitors to the Stan Lee Eagles site).

Open to professionals and fans alike from around the world, these new awards, run by Cassandra and Mike Conroy, offer professionals and fans alike the opportunity to select their favourites of 2013 in a wide variety of categories covering writers, artists, titles, stories and more.

Voting closes at midnight GMT on Friday 20th June 20 2014 and the results of these international people’s choice awards will be announced on Saturday 12th July 2014 at the London Film and Comic Con at Earls Court 2.

The Eagle Awards were previously hit some time back by what can be politely described as “creative differences” between the Conroys and MCM Expo, with whom they’d partnered to administer Britain’s best-known comics awards. Mike Conroy has not said if the previous joint ownership of the awards is the cause of what is, it seems a name change.

The True Believers Comic Awards ceremony will be held in the presence of legendary Marvel Universe-co-creator Stan Lee (making his last ever official European convention appearance) and many other celebrities to be announced shortly. Tickets for the event are priced £20. Doors open at 7.00 for 7.30pm.

• London Film and Comic Con (www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com) will run from Friday 11th July to Sunday 13th July 2014 in London’s Earls Court 2
