Here’s our list of both British and US comics on sale this week in comic shops today (Wednesday 8th April 2015), complementing our monthly list of British graphic novel releases (April 2015 release list here).
The ’Spring Salvo’ surges forward in 2000AD Prog 1925 with “Judge Dredd: Enceladus: New Life”, “Slaine: Brutania Chronicles [BookII] : Primordial” and “Strontium Dog: The Stix Fix”, among other Thrills; and if you’re Rogue Trooper fan, IDW have their collection of classic strips out this week, wrapped in a smashing cover by John McCrea.
If you’re after science fiction of the humorous kind, then this week’s Beano – on sale in newsagents today and some comic shops – sees aliens invade Beanotown (possibly) – and the weekly comic also offers the chance for readers to win an iPad Mini.
Available in the UK for some time (see our preview), this week sees the launch of Meanwhile… Issue 2 from Soaring Penguin Press in US comic shops – let’s hope they know what’s good for them and pick up the anthology, which includes new “Strangehaven” by Gary Spencer Millidge and the fantastic “The Bad Bad Place” by David Hine and Mark Stafford.
It’s a quiet week for Titan Comics: but out tomorrow is a collection of The Evil Within, written by Ian Edginton, spun from the new survival horror game from Bethesda Softworks.
Don’t forget that despite many British publishers lack of faith in full-blown cover to cover comic strip action and humour, there are still comics on sale in newsagents that still delight in bringing you such subversive delights, including The Beano, Commando, Judge Dredd Megazine, Panini’s superhero titles and VIZ, with great strips also featuring in titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who Adventures, Titan’s Doctor Who Comic (collecting their strips from the US format titles) Mega, TOXIC and many others.
The Hachette Judge Dredd Collection is also on sale now, but you may now have to subscribe if you want to continue buying it as Part Works are not distributed in newsagents after their first few issues.
Plus, the wonderful Phoenix Comic is on sale in all Waitrose supermarkets as well as available on subscription and through its dedicated iPad app.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
