Netflix Daredevil series renewed

Marvel: Daredevil (Netflx)

Streaming network Netflix has ordered a second season of Daredevil, which will debut in 2016 along with a number of other Marvel dramas. The series debuted in the UK last month and has proved a critical success with fans of the blind superhero.

It’s also been revealed that howrunner Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) is stepping down from the series, replaced by writers Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), who worked closely with DeKnight and creator Drew Goddard in the first season.

DeKnight cited time commitments as the reason he is not continuing.

Daredevil is the first in a series of shows detailing the Marvel universe ordered by Netflix with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in the works, followed by the Defenders miniseries. The show follows Matt Murdock (played by British actor Charlie Cox), attorney by day and vigilante by night.

Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil, fighting crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. His efforts are not welcomed by powerful businessman Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) – aka Kingpin – and others whose interests collide with those of Daredevil.

Though Murdock’s day job portrays a man who believes in the criminal justice system, his alter ego suggests otherwise, as he takes the law into his own hands to protect his Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood and the surrounding communities.

Daredevil also stars Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Matt’s lawyer partner, Foggy Nelson.

TVWise notes that with this renewal, every single one of Netflix’s original scripted series have made it to at least a second season. It follows on from the recent renewals for both House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black and comes just ahead of the launch of new series Grace & Frankie, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson; and Sense8, a new sci-fi series from J. Michael Straczynski and The Wachowski brothers.

  1. This is of course good news however is there any news on Agent Carter? The fact that this is announced and Agent Carter is not doesn’t sound good.
