Titan Comics has announced that the company has been granted rights to publish comics based on US TV network NBC’s upcoming event series Heroes Reborn, which launches in the autumn.

The licensing agreement awarded by Universal Partnerships & Licensing begins with a five-story arc, launching in October 2015, featuring the origins of one of the series’ new main characters. The news follows on the heels of the company’s deal to publish a comic based on another NBC show, The Blacklist, first announced in April.

The comic series will be written by Heroes Reborn Supervising Producer Seamus Fahey and Zach Craley and illustrated by Rubine.

“Our new Heroes series is being created in close collaboration with the team behind the NBC show.” said Chris Teather, Publishing Director, Titan Comics. “These aren’t just comics; they’re bonus episodes!”

The 13-episode mini series from creator/executive producer Tim Kring follows up on his hit 2006 show, will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities. This new series will be preceded by a new digital series that will introduce audiences to the new characters and storylines that will take the Heroes phenomenon to new places.

Episodes 1-34 of the NBC Heroes graphic novels were collected and published by Widlstorm, wrapped in a cover is by Alex Ross.

H.R.G., Zachary Levi (Chuck), Robbie Kay (Once Upon a Time), Kiki Sukezane (Death Yankee 3), Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door), Gatlin Green (Criminal Minds), Henry Zebrowski (A to Z), Judith Shekoni (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2), Danika Yarosh (Shameless) and Rya Kihlstedt (Masters of Sex). Some of the original cast will be returning in guest star arcs, including Masi Oka, Greg Grunberg, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Jimmy Jean-Louis.

Joining Kring are executive producers James Middleton (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Peter Elkoff (“Sons of Anarchy”). “Heroes Reborn” is produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television.

This isn’t the first time there’s been a Heroes comic: NBC released a tie-in webcomic as the original series aired, offering additional character background and plot information not shown in the television episodes, some subsequently collected by Wildstorm. The first volume including novels 1–34, and featuring two different covers by Alex Ross and Jim Lee as well as an introduction by series star Masi Oka, with artwork by Tim Sale. The second volume included novels 35–80. Both books were designed by John Roshell of Comicraft, who, the Heroes wiki relates, went to great pains to re-present the long list of credits from looking boring and giving the books a distinctive look evoking classic Marvel Comics styling.

Dynamite Entertainment announced in 2013 that they were to publish a Heroes comic written by Cullen Bunn that would pick up after the television show ended, but it was never published.

Titan Magazines previously published a bi-monthly Heroes Magazine  in 2007 to 2008which ran for twelve issues.
