DC Thomson has revealed the cover of the first issue of its Thunderbirds Are Go title, which launches Wednesday 14th October in all good newsagents.

Launchng just as the second set of first season episodes is due to start on CITV in the run up to Christmas, this first issue of the 36-page magazine, to be released every four weeks, will feature a free collectable model of the CGI show’s Thunderbird 1. It will offer young fans a mix of comic strip (format as yet unknown) and the features that dominate almost every magazine aimed at the target audience of 6 – 12 year-olds.

As we reported last weekMaria Welch, publisher for the Children’s Entertainment division at DC Thomson,  who oversees all of the company’s children’s titles says Thunderbirds Are Go represents the publisher’s continued commitment to print titles.

“We will capture all the fun, action and excitement from the TV series, and give fans a chance to extend their interaction with the brand.

Thunderbirds Are Go has already seen a strong global response since it launched to TV,” she said of the reasons for launching the new comic now, which should tie in with the screening of new episodes in the UK.

“ITV Studios Global Entertainment has secured a slate of impressive licensing deals for Thunderbirds Are Go with a fantastic range of products in the market. A compelling and engaging official magazine is the next logical step in this rollout.

“In light of the fantastic response the rebooted series has had so far, we have high hopes for the title.”

Thunderbirds Are Go magazine is being produced by an editorial and design team who have experience in the children’s magazine market,” said Welch of the company’s approach to the title, stressing the staff involved – who will include a writer and designer appointed after a recent recruitment drive specifically for Thunderbirds Are Go magazine – had a passion for producing fun, age-appropriate content.

“This makes us confident that we can deliver the most FAB magazine ever.”
