Top Guardian cartoonist and graphic novelist Posy Simmonds has joined the ranks of artists who have kindly donated art to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Grand Auction of Original Comic Art, which already features works by the likes of Ian Churchill, Hunt Emerson, Dave Gibbons, Jamie Hewlett, Sean Phillips, Bryan Talbot, the team from VIZ and more..
As we previously reported, proceeds from the auction – which will be run by Jonathan Ross, side by side with Kendal’s Tim Farron MP (and Lib Dem leader) will help to raise funds for future Lakes International Comic Art Festival projects after this year’s upcoming event.
The auction will take place on 24th November at Orbital Comics in London, and the catalogue is live online right now, where you can also bid if you can’t make the actual event (places are very limited!)
Also added to the auction in the past few days are illustrations from BROADBAND, a three-page, one-off comic created in 2002. The project was the brainchild of visionary comic-creator ILYA, who put together a team of 13 great artists who each contributed a few panels to the comic in their own style. Originally a project for Bristol Comic-Con, this brilliant idea never saw the light of day, and is now available to be read online now for the first time.
Most of the artists have kindly donated the original images from BROADBAND to the auction, including ILYA himself, Frank Quitely, Simon Fraser and Duncan Fegredo.
“Over the last few weeks and months some of the greatest artists currently working in comics have been scouring their archives and generously donating dozens of gorgeous pieces of artwork for our auction,” says auction co-oridnator Peter Kessler. “The proceeds will not only help the festival run, but also aid in funding commissions from new talent in the comics field.”
