It is just over a year since the first issue of writer Matt Gibbs and artist Sara Dunkerton’s MULP: Sceptre Of The Sun appeared. This full colour anthropomorphic adventure comic was a mousey take on an Indiana Jones style story as our mouse heroes Jack Redpath and Vicky Jones try to unravel the mystery of a stone tablet unearthed during an Egyptian excavation and before the dangerous Mademoiselle Moreau can do the same for her mysterious employer. We reviewed that first issue here on downthetubes as “a deliciously bizarre sideways take on 1920s Egypt” and “an impressive beginning to the story.”
Matt and Sara published MULP issue 1 themselves as ‘Inky Little Paws’ and they have been promoting MULP at various conventions over the last year or so. Indeed they will be at the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival in Kendal this coming weekend with copies of Issue 1. However their big news is that MULP Issue 2 is due to be released in November/December this year, hopefully to be launched at Thought Bubble in Leeds in November, and that the title has been now picked up by Improper Books who will be publishing the rest of the five issue series.
Matt and Sara have given us a sneak peek at the start of the new issue which, as the cover shows, has moved locale from Egypt to Machu Picchu in South America.
There are more details of MULP: Sceptre Of The Sun on the MULP website. Copies of issues 1 of MULP are not available directly from the website but can be ordered by mail order from the list of shops that stock it
