Superman and Zatana art by star 2015 guest Darwyn Cooke raised £410 towards Kendal College‘s culinary team’s educational trip next year. The college provided the food all with a Cumbrian twist for the auction which also showcased Kendal Mintcake Liquor in the metropolis.

“Kendal College’s culinary were very proud to be asked to support the Comic Arts Festival this year,” says Richard Ashford, head chef. “A dinner was held at the Kendal Museum and the team cooked a superb meal. They also provided the ‘Cumbrian canapés’ for the highly successful auction. Two very innovative and inspiring events which will also help 12 young people towards a life changing trip to San Francisco next summer.”

“It was great to take the Lakes Festival to London and to make some new friends,” Festival director Julie Tait told downthetubes. “We also achieved our fundraising target for the evening, selling some incredible artwork generously donated by previous guests.

“We wanted to make the point that LICAF is an international festival which wants to be judged alongside the very best cultural activity in the UK – hence the trip to the metropolis whilst maintaining a unique ‘Cumbrian twist’!”

It was a busy week for the Lakes Festival team in the capital. On Wednesday, as we previously reported, they announced a new partnership with Lancaster University with whom they have appointed the UK’s first Professor of Graphic Fiction, Benoit Peeters from France, taking up his post in Summer 2016.

“He is, amongst other things, one of the world’s leading experts on Tintin and will be at LICAF next year,” says Julie. “All the broadsheets picked up on it, including The Guardian, the Daily Telegraph and The Independent, the Daily Mail and media from across France and further afield.”
