2000AD’s 40th Anniversary Special Gets Reprinted with two new covers after sell-out success in comic stores

2000AD 40th Anniversary Special - David Aja Cover Reprint

2000AD’s landmark 40th anniversary special edition is to go to a second printing after selling out in newsagents and comic shops across the UK after its release last week.

Celebrating four decades of 2000 AD’s cutting edge and globally influenced comics, even the hugely increased print run for the 40th anniversary special has not satisfied demand, so a reprint edition is now available for comic book stores to order through Diamond Distribution.

It will feature a new take on the massively popular Judge Dredd cover by Hawkeye artist David Aja from the first print run. This ‘virgin’ cover will be stripped of cover-lines, putting Aja’s striking visual front and centre alongside 2000 AD’s iconic logo.

A limited edition featuring a new variant cover by world-renowned artist Jock, based on the uniform from the 2012 DREDD movie, will be exclusively available through Forbidden Planet and Dublin’s Big Bang Comics.

Matt Smith, editor of 2000AD, said: “It’s very gratifying to see the huge response to 2000AD’s 40th Anniversary Special, and indeed the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic’s birthday in general. The title clearly continues to resonate with fans, and the wider popular culture, four decades after it hit the stands in February 1977, and this special was assembled as a way to mark the incredible work done by so many contributors over the years. If you missed the chance to pick up this highly sought-after issue, then make sure you grab the reprint from your local comics store – it’s a new benchmark in Thrill-power!”

The 48-page special is themed around the colour red – as befitting a ruby anniversary – and includes a brand-new case for Judge Dredd, courtesy of John Wagner and Carl Critchlow; Hammerstein and Ro-Jaws take their revenge on Howard Quartz in “Ro-Busters” by Pat Mills and Clint Langley; there’s a return to the mad, mad world of Zombo by Al Ewing and Henry Flint; Nikolai Dante gets the party started in “Devil May Care” by Robbie Morrison and Simon Fraser; a young Sláine shows that he’s got what it takes to join the Red Branch, courtesy of Pat Mills and Simon Davis, while award-winning writer duo of Lauren Beukes and Dale Halvorsen are joined by the legendary Carlos Ezquerra for a new Durham Red story. It also includes pages by Jock and Bryan Talbot.

This year the legendary weekly British anthology comic 2000AD celebrates forty years of innovative, provocative, and original sci-fi, fantasy, and horror action from the cream of comics creators. It has brought the industry some of its biggest talents, from Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, and Mark Millar, to Jock, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons, and many more.
