Comics creator and stage designer John Stokes will at Gosh! Comics in London, in conversation with Broken Frontier’s Editor-in-Chief Andy Oliver, on Friday 6th October to celebrate the release of the wonderful  Marney the Fox from the Treasury of British Comics.

John is perhaps best known for “Fishboy” or for his years of work for IPC (and a long run on “Star Trek for Valiant) and Marvel UK, particularly, for many, his work on “Black Knight” for Hulk Weekly. However it’s still the wonderful adventure strip Marney from Buster where Stokes’ work truly shines.

Some art from “Marney the Fox”

Marney the Fox is a Lassie style tale of a lone fox up against wicked humans. Equal parts Watership Down and Fantastic Mr Fox, “Marney The Fox” was written by the late M. Scott Goodall and beautifully illustrated by John Stokes. Marney is a young fox trying to survive against the odds, from dodging blood thirsty humans to encountering other wild animals.

This is a beautifully illustrated story capturing the British countryside and wildlife in astonishing detail and is a real showcase of Stokes’ magnificent work. A masterpiece that has lain out of print for decades.

• John will be at Gosh on Friday 6th October 2017 between 7.30 and 9pm. If you can’t make it but would like a signed book, then drop us a line to info@goshlondon.com to arrange a mail order or a reservation. Web: www.goshlondon.com
