The December Compal comic auction has just been launched and includes some great comics and art, including a page of “The Daleks” by Ron Turner for 1960s comic TV Century 21 – and an Oor Wullie original artwork for charity auction, donated by the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon.

The lot comprises the artwork signed by DC Thomson artist, Peter Davidson, the First Minister’s Christmas card, photo and Ms Sturgeon’s personal Broons Book for 2016, all signed by herself.

The proceeds of this sale will go to four local charities: The Archie Foundation for Tayside Childrens’ Hospital, Dundee; The Christine Witcutt Memorial Fund, The Dixon Community Fund and SiMBA, a charity that supports mothers who have lost their children in pregnancy. Comic Book Auctions will donate their vendor’s premium to these worthy causes

This catalogue also includes a timely edition of Detective Weekly from 1935 which enclosed the first ever serialisation of all seven episodes of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express (with Kenneth Branagh’s new film of the same name currently wowing audiences in cinemas world-wide).

Also on offer is a rarity from The Bob Monkhouse Archive; all 22 issues of Triumph from 1939 which herald the first UK reprints of Superman just one year after his explosive debut in Action Comics #1.

The US section contains a sensational run of Detective Comics ranging from #7 in 1937 through to the 1970s, many of the early issues in affordable lower grade condition. The Silver Age encompasses strong runs of Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Hulk, Iron Man and X-Men but don’t say no to a fresh cents copy of Showcase 43 at lot 365.
