Dog Friendly! Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast chats with the Gluepot Books team

Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast Episode 20 - Gluepot Books

The latest episode of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast is online now and leads with an interview with sisters Scarlett and Sophie Rickard who have created their own publishing company, Gluepot Books, publishers of the hugely enjoyable canine-inspired comic tale (no pun intended) Mann’s Best Friend.

Tony Esmond, among others, enthused about the book in his review last year, and it was one of the Podcast team’s Top Ten books of 2017.

Mann's Best Friend - The DogFounded as a platform to publish their collaborative works, their next project is A Blow Borne Quietly, a true epistolary graphic novel set in 1880s takes us on a journey with three siblings from everyday family life to upheaval and tragic consequences.

In the interview, Scarlett and Sophie discuss how they work together, the process of creating a book to printing it and how it was to actually have people read and review their book.

Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates also review Our Town by Tim Bird, Wired Up Wrong by Rachael Smith (who will be on the show later this year) plus two comics via the Comichaus app: White Noir from Matt Garvey and Divevez and The Red Mask from Mars by Vince Hunt.

The Podcast also announce a project that they intend to tackle this year… the creation of their very own comic. Ian will be writing and Nikki will be the artist. Follow their journey from by standers to hopeful publishers as they document their journey through 2018 on the podcast.

Mike starts a series of segments about comics created from TV shows, beginning with a look at Battlestar Galactica and the host of comics that have spawned from both the original and more recent re-imagination of the concept.

Plus, Pete Taylor interviews his friend and comic collaborator Mark Hughes, who he has worked with on Copperopolis. They discuss Mark’s process of drawing comics and what he enjoys about creating comics. They also talk about who stands out for him as great artists plus a little bit about where they are up to on Copperopolis.
