Moniaive Comic Festival back in June

Moniaive Comic Festival is back, coming to the Dumfries and Galloway town 2nd – 3rd June 2018.

It might seem a small, out of the way place to some, but alongside the two hotels, a Post Office and a chocolate shop, the town, location for the filming of the film The Magdaline Sisters, sports a recording studio and over 30 community groups Moniaive. All of which helps makes it a vibrant, friendly place to visit.

It is also, it turns out, the perfect place for small family orientated festivals – and thanks to local residents Sue and Alan Grant (yes, that Alan Grant, 2000AD and Batman writer), has hosted the Moniaive Comic Festival, on and off since 2001.

Past guests have included Cam Kennedy, Frank Quitely, Alan Grant, Metaphrog, Nigel Dobbyn, Monty Nero, Jim Stewart and many, many more.

“The aim of Sue Grant and her team seems to be how they can create the most relaxed comic festival in the world,” noted our own Colin Noble back in 2016 after he visited that year, “and in that, they succeeded by a country mile.”

Always offering a great line up of guests, the Moniaive Comic Festival offers a family friendly event combining talks, workshops and a convivial atmosphere for all…. expect the unexpected!

Do note accommodation is scarce but camping is encouraged- and those of you who prefer more civilised sleeping arrangements can stay in nearby Thornhill or Dumfries. Pre book your taxis, though!
