Artist Pete Wallbank delivers Six Million Dollar Man for upcoming INFINITY magazine

Six Million Dollar Man by Pete Wallbank

Artist Pete Wallbank has been delighting fans of many classic cult TV shows with his stunning covers for INFINITY magazine – but his latest, for Issue 9, on sale soon, featuring the Six Million Dollar Man was clearly a delight to draw!

“I never had any arm twisting to do this job,” Pete happily reveals. “The Six Million Dollar Man was – and still is – my all-time favourite TV. series.”

Starring Lee Majors as Steve Austin and Richard Anderson as his O.S.I. boss Oscar Goldman, the show, inspired by the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, was a huge international hit in the 1970s.

“It spawned a huge range of merchandise that you could say acted as a blueprint for Kenner and their Star Wars toy range,” Pete argues.

Six Million Dollar Man Action Figure

“The action figure of Steve complete with his red tracksuit was invariably at the top of the Christmas and birthday lists of most boys at the time.

“Yes, I played Steve Austin on the school playground with my friends,” he happily admits, “and yes, you could catch me running in slow motion and re-enacting the bionic sound effects just as they happened on the weekly show!

“I’m sure it might have looked odd but everyone knew who The Six Million Dollar Man was, it was one of the biggest shows in the world at the time.

“I never really feel anxiety doing a job but felt a fair amount on this,” Pete, whose illustration work first caught the eyes of many with his covers for Doctor Who Magazine in the 1990s, reveals.

“I really hope people like what I’ve done with it.”

We think it’s another winner after his recent Blake’s 7 and Doctor Who covers for Infinity – what about you?
