2000AD Prog 2074 - Cover

The latest issue of 2000AD (Prog 2074), featuring a cover by US artist Emily Zeinner, is on sale now in all good comic shops and newsagents in the UK, as well as various digital platforms globally. This week, the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic continues its new start with the return of a familiar and potentially dangerous face in “Judge Anderson” (no spoilers!) and under the radar machinations continue elsewhere in Mega City One, to the concern of Judge Dredd.

Favourites this issue? The little things include the panel from artist Chris Weston where SJS Judge Pin cocks their head in a near zombie-like way as an investigation continues. It’s as creepy a scene as the thin smile on her devious lips later in the story (no spoilers!). Oh, and the peaceful aliens facing misery at the hands of new arrivals on their planet in “Strontium Dog”, with Carlos Ezquerra channelling hi inner Moebius with their look. Glorious.

I would say that while Prog 2073 was a jump on point for new readers, “Judge Dredd”, “Jaegir” and “Judge Anderson” all draw on back story in their telling, but writers Rob Williams, Gordon Rennie and Emma Beeby do this without leaving new Squaxx dek Thargo all at sea (or space).

The art on these current progs remains top notch, but for me Weston and Simon Coleby are knocking it out of the part on their respective thrills.

Another great issue!

Judge Dredd Megazine Issue 394 - CoverAlso on sale now is Judge Dredd Megazine Issue 394, which continues the brilliant “Judge Dredd – Krong Island” story and the frankly mind blowing “Lawless – Breaking Badrock”, which offers some of the most beautiful art, by Phil Winslade, to grace the title. Along with plenty more terrific strips, there’s also a great feature on “Charley’s War”, the World War One comic we have devoted a special section of downthetubes to, tying in with the release of new collections from Rebellion.

2000AD: The Ultimate Collection Issue 162000AD: The Ultimate Collection Issue 16 is also on sale this week, the third volume of “Nemesis the Warlock” stories, which as with 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, is on sale in all good comic shops and newsagents.

While Nemesis and Purity continue to search for the Warlock’s son Thoth in the Time Wastes in a bid to save Termight from destruction, Torquemada has returned to the tube world that he ruled over as Grand Master. But something is attacking Torquemada’s previous incarnations, causing him to decay, and he must travel back in history to the first Tomas de Torquemada – leader of the Spanish Inquisition!
