Reinhard is doing book signings across the city on Saturday 14th April at Rough Trade East in Shoreditch and Gosh Comics, Soho, taking part in a free live drawing event at Rough Trade Records, at 1300 – 1400. He is accompanied by a live soundtrack from Gris-de-Lin, a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Dorset whose music is a heady mix of post-rock, blues and alt-folk peppered with warped electronics. Then, in the evening, he will be in conversation with writer and broadcaster David Quantick at Gosh Comics, Berwick Street, from 7.00pm. (Full details here)

Reinhard is author of a number of popular graphic biographies ox extraordinary 20th Century figures that include Johnny Cash: I See A DarknessCastroThe Boxer telling the life of German boxer who became a Nazi champion in the concentration camps, and An Olympic Dream, recounting the tragic heroism of Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar.

Musician, novelist, score composer and occasional actor, Nick Cave is a Renaissance man and his wide-ranging artistic output has always demonstrated an extraordinary gift for storytelling. In the previously-published Nick Cave: Mercy on Me, Reinhard Kleist employed a cast of characters drawn from Cave’s music and writing to tell the story of a formidable artist and influencer. He paints an expressive and enthralling portrait of Cave’s childhood in Australia; his early years fronting The Birthday Party; the sublime highs of his success with The Bad Seeds; and the struggles he encountered along the way to self-expression.

Capturing everything from Cave’s frenzied performances in Berlin to the tender moments he spent with love and muse Anita Lane, Reinhard Kleist’s graphic biography, like Cave’s songs, is by turns electrifying, sentimental, morbid and comic – but always engrossing.
