This Friday – 20th April 2018 – comics writer Tim Quinn will be announcing just how you can grab a pre-publication date copy of the latest FAB 4000 comic!

Tune in to the Billy Butler show on BBC Radio Merseyside and find out how to get both comic and badge to wear with pride, as you help Liverpool Heartbeat to support the kids at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Tim has already revealed the comic – written by him and drawn by Ben 10 and Doctor Who artist Russ Leach – centres on the true story of John Hulley.

Born in 1832, John Hulley was an English gymnastics and athletics entrepreneur who encouraged public participation in physical education to improve health and well-being, and was one of the instigators of the Olympic movement in Britain. At his Liverpool Gymnasium in 1865, he established the National Olympian Association, the forerunner of the British Olympic Association. But that was just one of his achievements…

“Forgotten for over a century, now his story can be told,” Tim teases.

“Find out why we are calling Hulley Liverpool’s very first superhero!”

Here’s a tiny peek at a scene from the new FAB 4000 story. “As you can see, there’s a whole lotta shaking going on,” Tim enthuses.

“The girl on the skateboard? That’s our own Jayne Massey, leader of The FABs, alongside her seeing eye dog Witney. Oh, and it’s not a skateboard! ”

The FAB 4000 comics project developed by Tim, Russ Leach and the staff and pupils of St Vincent’s School for Sensory Impairment, launched last year with support from Supergirl cast member Chyler Leigh and Nathan West’s band East of Eli.

The comic, aid of Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, is being published by Liverpool Heartbeat, a charity that has been inspiring young people in the North West and Merseyside to pursue healthy, exciting, fulfilled life styles since its formation in 2002.

Funds raised from the sale of the FAB 4000 comic will help children like wonder boy Rowan.
