When the Journal of Tintinwas launched in 1946, Hergé came up with a landmark story in the chronicles of his famous reporter. Each page, created in an "Italian" landscape format, unfolds across a double-page spread. A rich reading experience, this approach created a problem when it came to adapting the story for the book edition. Hergé had to reformat certain pages and drop some panels, despite their undeniable quality. As an example, this panel (panel 4 from page 38 - published in Tintin Journal # 24 on June 12th, 1947) features Tintin and Captain Haddock in the heart of the Andes.
